Earith Primary School Curriculum Statement

Intent

At Earith Primary School, our curriculum is designed to be knowledge-rich, inclusive and values-driven. It enables all pupils to know more, remember more and do more as they progress through their education. Rooted in our core values of Resilience, Resourcefulness, Responsibility, Reflectiveness and Readiness, the curriculum builds strong foundations for future success both academically and personally.

We aim to provide children with the essential knowledge, vocabulary and cultural capital they need to understand the world, think critically, and make meaningful connections. Our curriculum is ambitious, broad and balanced — fostering curiosity, deep understanding and a lifelong love of learning.

We prioritise high expectations for all learners, including those with SEND, and ensure that all pupils are equipped with the tools they need to become confident, informed and responsible citizens in modern Britain.+

Implementation

Our curriculum is coherently sequenced and carefully planned to ensure progression of knowledge and skills from Early Years through to Year 6. Subject content is selected deliberately and taught explicitly. Key concepts and vocabulary are revisited regularly to embed learning in long-term memory, with strategies such as retrieval practice, modelling and deliberate practice used consistently across the school.

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and underpins learning across all subjects. Strong foundations in English & Maths are prioritised. All subjects are taught discretely, with clear knowledge and vocabulary goals that build year-on-year. Children have regular opportunities to apply their learning across a range of contexts, including problem-solving, extended writing, discussion and creative expression.

Learning is enriched through purposeful experiences such as educational visits, outdoor learning, themed events and engagement with our local community. Teachers promote the school’s core values throughout curriculum delivery, ensuring pupils grow in resilience, resourcefulness, responsibility, reflectiveness and readiness.

To strengthen long-term learning and support the development of pupils’ schema, we embed a set of universal Key Concepts across the curriculum. These include: form, function, change, connection, causation, reflection, responsibility and perspective. These concepts provide a common language and structure that help pupils make meaningful links across subjects and deepen their understanding of complex ideas. By revisiting these concepts in a range of contexts, children are better able to organise and retain knowledge, transfer understanding between disciplines, and build a cohesive and connected view of the curriculum.

Impact

Our curriculum ensures that children leave Earith Primary School with a secure body of knowledge, the ability to apply it confidently and the personal qualities to succeed in their next stage of education and life.

Pupils demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge retention through accurate recall, explanation and application of key concepts;
- High levels of reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary development;
- Resilience, independence and motivation in their learning;
- The ability to reflect on progress and take responsibility for improvement;
- Readiness for future challenges, with confidence and character.

Progress is assessed formatively and summatively across all subjects. Outcomes are monitored closely to inform teaching and ensure children reach their full potential. Our curriculum empowers every learner to flourish, providing them with the academic knowledge and personal skills they need to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world.
