About the Governors of Earith School

We have a governing body of 13 governors representing the parents, the local authority, the staff and the community. In becoming a governor you would join the biggest volunteer force in the country.

The main role and responsibility of the Governing Body is the strategic management of the school and to help the school provide the best possible education of all the pupils. The governors aim to raise expectations of what can be achieved by all pupils and strengthen the evolvement of parents and the community. This involves:

•setting the school’s vision and aims.

•establishing and maintaining the school's ethos.

•setting the school's plans and policies.

•monitoring and evaluating the school's performance; and

•promoting self evaluation to sustain school performance.

School governors have a term of office of four years and are expected to attend an induction course when they are first appointed and further training thereafter, to meet the requirements of the school and the governing body.

Governors meet twice per term as a full governing body and then twice termly in committees, each governor is expected to be a member of one committee or the other (Resources or Standards). Meetings are normally held at the school at 7:00pm.

The Resources committee's responsibilities include the school building and grounds, the equipment within school, staffing and the school finances.

The Standards committee's responsibilities include performance of the school, pupil performance and the quality of teaching.

The governors delegate the day to day operational control of the school to the Headteacher and do not get involved in the operation of the school.
