Squirrels Letters

This week has been very spoooooky in Squirrel class!

We took part in our Halloween Science Day. We put candy bananas in different liquids to see which would dissolve them the best. We  found that the vinegar and bicarbonate of soda had the best results. We also made 'Spooky faces'. We observed the chemical reaction between vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and saw how it made a gas that made our balloon faces inflate! It was lots of fun!

This week we have been drawing pictures of shells and painting them using our knowledge of primary and secondary colours. We  had to be very careful when mixing the paints to keep the colours accurate on the page. Here is some work in progress.

In Maths, we have been learning about shapes. We identified, described and sorted a selection of 2D and 3D shapes.

Have an enjoyable Half Term

This week we have been enjoying our Music lesson with Mrs Pentney. We  learnt how to use our voices in different ways and sang some beautiful songs.

In Maths we have continued with out work on subtraction and in English we have been learning how to use technical vocabulary in our non-chronological reports.

This week in Squirrel class, we have been very busy.

In English, we were continuing with out work on 'Flotsam' and we have written our own stories about items that have been washed up on the shore.

In Maths, we have been learning different strategies to solve addition problems.

On Friday, we got to go outside and use the pool during our PE lesson. It was very cold but luckily the water was warm like a bath. We practised going under water and even played some games.

Over the past two weeks, we have been busy looking at a picture book called 'Flotsam' by David Wiesner. We have sequenced the pictures, used adjectives to describe the items that are found and used evidence to justify our predictions for the ending. This week we are busy thinking about how we can write out own versions of the story!

In maths, we are learning about addition and subtraction. We are revising known strategies for solving problems and putting these to use when solving challenges.

Our new class name is Squirrels and we will be updating you with news from our class!

Below are some of our activities from last year

This week we were very lucky as we got to go swimming twice! We practised going under the water, swimming through hoops and then worked on perfecting our breast-stroke. Mrs Simmonds was almsot as wet as us by the time we had finished as we kept accidentally splashing her!!

In the classroom we have been busy doing some end of year assessments. We have been working very hard!

We are looking forward to our 'Healthy Week' next week where we will be making healthy food and taking part in Sportsday.

What a wet week it has been so far! Unfortunately we were unable to go in the swimming pool on Tuesday because of the massive downpour in the afternoon. Mrs Simmonds has said that we can try and squeeze in another session before the end of the term.

On Monday we write biographies about Vincent van Gogh, using all of the knowledge that we gained about him on 'Artist Day' last week. We also finished our sunflower paintings.
